Opening the ATA Certification Exam to Non-Members

October 1, 2019

The ATA Certification exam is scheduled to open to non-members on January 1, 2021. The elimination of ATA membership as an eligibility requirement for certification, sometimes referred to as decoupling, is a major change for the association and its members.

Why did ATA’s Board of Directors decide to open the certification exam to non-members? How will the decoupling process work?

In this 70-minute webinar, ATA President Corinne McKay and President-Elect Ted Wozniak reviewed the decision and the exam procedures that will be in place in 2021.

The webinar closed with a 20-minute question-and-answer session.

This webinar covers

  • Reasons for opening the exam to non-members
  • Differences in member and non-member certification fees
  • Continuing education requirements for non-member ATA-certified translators
  • ATA-certified translator listings in ATA’s Directory of Translators and Interpreters
  • Enforcement of the ATA Code of Ethics and Professional Practice
